Job summary

IDEA Services is seeking a dedicated Support Worker in Otago to empower adults with intellectual disabilities to live fulfilling lives at home and in the community. You’ll foster independence, assist with daily living, and support personal care as part of a compassionate team.

You’ll work varied shifts, including mornings, evenings, sleepovers, and weekends. The role offers meaningful work, with opportunities to progress through Health and Wellbeing certificates.

As a Support Worker, you will empower individuals with intellectual disabilities to lead fulfilling lives at home and within their community. This role is deeply meaningful, allowing you to be creative and make each day engaging and significant for those you support.

• Fostering independence: Assist individuals in developing daily living skills such as using public transport and preparing meals.
• Managing daily routines: Support with personal care tasks like showering, dressing and taking medication.
• Pursuing goals and interests: Encourage and help individuals to follow their passions and hobbies.
• Promoting health and well-being: Guide individuals in making healthy lifestyle choices and maintaining their overall well-being.
• Building strong connections: Strengthen their relationships with whānau and community.

• Previous experience in the health/disability sector, supporting individuals with diverse needs
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Physical fitness to provide hands‑on support when needed
• Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and sleepovers
• A full NZ driver's licence
