Oranga Tamariki—Ministry for Children is seeking a Supervisor Social Worker for the Lower Hutt site. You will lead and supervise a skilled team of social workers, working with tamariki, whānau, iwi, and partner agencies to drive positive outcomes.

The role requires a full NZ driver’s licence, SWRB registration, and a relevant social work qualification. You will mentor staff, manage caseloads, and travel across the region as needed. This is a full-time, permanent position.

Qualifications

• Full, clean driver’s licence required.
• Full registration with NZ Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB).
• A social worker qualification recognised by the SWRB.
• Previous people management or mentoring experience is essential.
• Ability to build and lead an effective team and be a team player.
• A proactive approach prioritising tamariki wellbeing.
• Excellent time management and ability to manage competing demands.
• Knowledge of the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989 and cross-cultural practices, incl. tikanga Māori and Pacific cultures.

Responsibilities

• Lead, support and supervise a team of social workers.
• Collaborate with Iwi, government and non-government organisations to support tamariki and whānau.
• Travel around the region as required to meet outcomes.
• Identify and develop professional development needs of the team; support growth in capability.
