Job summary

Ministry of Education in Dunedin is seeking a part-time Speech-Language Therapist to support learning through language development in South Otago and City areas. The role is fixed-term through January 2027 and based in our Dunedin office, delivering services within a Learning Support context.

You will work with families, schools and other specialists to translate theory into practical strategies, coordinating care in a multi-agency setting. NZ Driver's licence required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech-Language Therapy or equivalent.
• Specialist knowledge of theory, research and practice in speech-language and learning.

This is a part-time (0.6FTE), fixed-term position through to January 2027, based in our Dunedin office. The role provides Speech-Language Therapy (SLT) services and support across the South Otago and City areas.

As a Speech Language Therapist, you will play a critical role in our region’s Learning Support team by:

• Working to understand the impact of children and young people’s speech and language difficulties in the context of their home, school and community
• Working closely with parents, caregivers, teachers and other specialists to help them support their children with the development of speech, language and communication skills
• Working as part of a trans-disciplinary team where a child’s needs are complex.

Salary range: $69,966 - $106,016 per annum plus KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake

To be successful you will need:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech-Language Therapy or an equivalent that meets the requirements of the New Zealand Speech-language Therapists Association
• Specialist knowledge of theory, research and practice related to speech-language, child and human development and learning and behaviour
• Ability to translate specialist knowledge into practical information
• Ability to co-ordinate service provision in a multi-agency, trans-disciplinary setting
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with children, young people and their families and teachers across a diverse range of settings
• A full NZ Drivers licence
• The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tirirti o Waitangi and tangata whenuatanga.
• The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

Learning Support is a critical part of the Te MahauGroup in the Ministry. We ensure that children and young people with additional learning needs are supported to achieve their full potential through education.
