Job summary

Jora New Zealand is seeking a Solar Installer to install, commission, and maintain residential and commercial solar power systems in line with New Zealand electrical regulations, industry standards, and company quality requirements. You will deliver safe, efficient installations and uphold high customer service and site safety.

Key tasks include installing PV systems, mounting, wiring, testing, fault-finding, documenting work, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

  • Registered Electrician (EWRB) with a current practising licence.
  • Full Class 1 Driver Licence.
  • Minimum 2 years’ post-qualification electrical experience.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical plans and specifications.
  • Previous solar installation experience preferred.

Position Purpose

To install, commission, and maintain residential and commercial solar power systems in accordance with New Zealand electrical regulations, industry standards, and company quality requirements. The Solar Installer will be responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality solar installations while maintaining excellent customer service and site safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
Solar Installation & Commissioning
  • Install solar PV systems on residential and commercial properties.
  • Install mounting systems, solar panels, inverters, batteries, isolators, and associated equipment.
  • Complete system testing, commissioning, and fault-finding.
  • Ensure all installations meet manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Complete installation documentation and compliance records.
Electrical Work
  • Perform electrical wiring and connections associated with solar PV systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical and system faults.
  • Ensure compliance with New Zealand electrical standards and industry best practices.
Health & Safety
  • Work safely at heights and utilise appropriate fall protection equipment.
  • Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments.
  • Follow all site-specific and company health and safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and professional work environment.
Customer & Team Engagement
  • Communicate professionally with clients and stakeholders.
  • Provide technical support and guidance where required.
  • Work collaboratively with other electricians, apprentices, and project teams.
  • Mentor junior team members when appropriate.
Essential Requirements
Qualifications
  • Registered Electrician (EWRB) with a current practising licence.
  • Current Electrical Workers Registration Board (EWRB) practising licence.
  • Full Class 1 Driver Licence.
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years' post-qualification electrical experience.
  • Previous solar installation experience preferred.
  • Experience in residential and/or commercial electrical installations.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical plans and specifications.
Certifications (Preferred)
  • Working at Heights certification.
  • Site Safe Passport.
  • Elevated Work Platform (EWP) certification.
  • First Aid Certificate.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of solar PV systems and renewable energy technologies.
  • Sound knowledge of New Zealand electrical regulations and standards.
  • Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting ability.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.

Screening Criteria

To be considered for this role, candidates must:

  • Hold a current EWRB practising licence.
  • Hold a Full Class 1 Driver Licence.
  • Be legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
  • Demonstrate relevant electrical installation experience.
  • Be comfortable working at heights and in outdoor environments.

Candidates who do not meet the mandatory qualification and licensing requirements will not be considered for this position but may be considered for other suitable opportunities where applicable.
