Seascape is turning satellite radar imagery into precise intelligence on sea conditions, maritime activity and environmental change, and we build the hardware that helps search and rescue teams find people lost at sea.

We are seeking a software engineer to join our Auckland team in a hybrid role with 2–3 in-office days per week. You will work closely with an R&D and product team, implement features, write tests, and help maintain a clean, collaborative codebase.

Qualifications

• 2+ years' experience in a small or mid-sized engineering team using Agile.
• Proficient in Python, with experience in at least one other language.
• Strong knowledge of data structures, APIs, and testing.
• Comfortable in Linux/Unix, using the command line.
• Experience with AWS or another cloud platform.
• Familiar with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
• Clear written and verbal communication.
• Ability to read, understand and refactor others' code.

We turn satellite radar imagery into precise intelligence on sea conditions, maritime activity and environmental change, and we build the hardware that helps search and rescue teams find people lost at sea.

We're looking for a software engineer to join our Auckland engineering team and help build the systems behind that work. This is a hybrid role, with 2-3 in-office days per week.

The role

• Support our R&D team to take new features and implement them in production

• Support our product development team to operationalise our codebase

• Write meaningful tests and help maintain good Git hygiene across branching, pull requests and code review

• Help keep our codebase clean and readable, including for non-engineering team members

• Learn geospatial, remote-sensing and machine learning concepts as you go, even if they're new to you

• Collaborate daily with a globally distributed team

What you'll bring

• A degree in Computer Science or a related field

• 2+ years' experience in a small or mid-sized engineering team using Agile

• Python, and ideally at least one other language (e.g. TypeScript, C++ or Rust)

• Confidence with version control, testing, code review and core software concepts (data structures, APIs, error handling, dependency management)

• Comfortable on the command line in a Linux/Unix environment

• Some experience with AWS or another cloud platform

• A basic understanding of containerisation (Docker) and CI/CD (GitHub Actions or similar)

• Clear written and verbal communication

• The ability to read, understand and refactor code written by others

Nice to have

• Experience bridging research and production teams

• Exposure to geospatial or earth observation tools such as GeoTIFF, Zarr, STAC, rasterio or PostGIS
