Job summary

Orion Health is seeking a Software Engineer to join the Workflow team in Auckland. Early-career engineers (1–3 years) will work full-stack on clinical forms software, using React/TypeScript on the frontend and Java on the backend, within a team focused on quality engineering and collaboration.

You will own your work, tackle interesting technical problems, and deepen engineering judgment while contributing to real healthcare environments that require thoughtful design and robust testing.

Qualifications

• We are seeking 1–3 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Degree in software engineering or computer science (or equivalent).
• Experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, React and Java in a full-stack role.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly.
• Solid software engineering practices: design thinking, testing, version control and code reviews.
• Excellent communication, able to explain code and technical decisions.

Responsibilities

• Build full-stack features using React, TypeScript and Java.
• Develop the configurable forms rendering engine to turn definitions into live forms.
• Design solutions and reason through technical problems before coding.
• Write meaningful automated tests and debug across the stack.

Job description

We're on the hunt for a Software Engineer to join our Workflow team based here in Auckland. This is a great opportunity for an early-career engineer with between 1 and 3 years' professional experience to grow their technical skills while building software that makes a real difference in healthcare.

You'll work across the full stack on our clinical workflow and forms software, built around a configurable rendering engine, helping healthcare organisations digitise the way clinical information is captured and used. You'll be working with React and TypeScript on the frontend and Java on the backend, alongside an experienced team with a strong focus on quality engineering and teamwork.

You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of your work, tackle interesting technical problems and continue developing your engineering judgement. Because our software is used in real clinical environments, we care about getting things right - from thoughtful design and meaningful testing through to constructive code review.

What you’ll get stuck into:

• Building full-stack features using React, TypeScript and Java
• Working on our configurable forms rendering engine, which turns form definitions into live clinical forms
• Designing solutions and working through technical problems before jumping into code
• Writing meaningful automated tests and debugging issues across the stack
• Reviewing code with other engineers, sharing your thinking and learning from feedback
• Building your knowledge of healthcare technology and how software is deployed in real clinical environments

What will you bring?

• Between 1 and 3 years' professional software engineering experience
• A BE(Hons) in Software Engineering, BSc in Computer Science, or equivalent
• Experience with our core stack - JavaScript/TypeScript, React and Java
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to pick up unfamiliar technologies quickly
• A solid approach to software engineering - thinking through design, writing meaningful tests, using version control and contributing to code reviews
• Good communication skills, with the ability to explain your code, reasoning and technical decisions

Experience with any of the following would be a bonus:

• SQL and relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL)
• REST APIs
• Jest, JUnit or Playwright
• Material UI (MUI)
• Docker
• AWS
• CI/CD, particularly GitLab CI
