Job summary

Rocket Lab in Auckland is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Web Services to design, build and deploy full-stack web applications and machine-to-machine services used across the business. Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or a similar field.
• 5+ years' professional experience in a relevant discipline.
• Strong experience designing and building REST APIs.
• Experience with Node.js.
• Experience with Angular or another front-end framework, such as React or Vue.
• Proficiency in Git.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the judgement to find the right solution, not just a working one.
• A team player with a positive, "How can I help?" attitude. No task is beneath you.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly to engineers and non-technical stakeholders alike.
• The ability to plan and prioritise your own work, deliver on time, and get things right the first time.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop web applications end to end, including database schemas, back-end services, front-end applications and web-based user interfaces.
• Build machine-to-machine services and REST APIs that integrate with systems across Rocket Lab.
• Develop software and unit tests for bug fixes and feature requests, and document how to operate the software products you build.
• Review source code merge requests, approve merge requests for Software Assurance Levels B and below, and help set the team's code review standards.
• Facilitate software architecture meetings and approve software architecture designs.
• Approve software requirements and manage trade studies to support technical decisions.
• Refine product backlog items, approve the definition of ready, and help prioritise the backlog.
• Facilitate scrum activities, such as stand-ups, retrospectives and sprint planning, and manage scrum information like velocity and retro minutes.
• Facilitate stakeholder meetings to understand requirements and keep projects aligned with business needs.
• Deploy operational software, support users of deployed software, and deliver training on how to use it.
• Coach and mentor more junior engineers, and help define best practice across the team.
