Job summary

Maritime NZ seeks a Senior Solicitor in Wellington (open to other regions) to provide expert legal advice across regulatory and enforcement activities, manage investigations, and lead complex litigation and prosecutions.

You will appear in court, work with Crown Solicitors, and help shape policy and guidance within the regulatory framework. Salary range NZD 119,318 to 153,514 plus superannuation; full-time role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Laws or higher with current practicing certificate.
• Minimum of 7 years' post-qualification experience.
• Proven criminal litigation and prosecution experience.
• Experience in transport law or maritime, environmental, safety issues.
• In-house public sector experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice across regulatory and enforcement activities.
• Support incident investigations and prosecutions; manage complex litigation.
• Appear in court and advise on investigations; coordinate with Crown Solicitors.
• Support Maritime NZ's response to significant incidents.
