Job summary

Halter is building the data-enabled workflow for modern livestock operations in New Zealand. We seek engineers who can own and scale an end-to-end stack covering factory testing, traceability, and process control.

You will ship robust tooling, dashboards, and APIs that deliver critical data to decision-makers.

Qualifications

• Proven experience building and shipping complex production systems.
• Hands-on AWS design and tooling for scalability.
• Backend and data engineering with Go or Python; strong SQL.
• Experience building platform tooling at scale: AWS, Terraform, CI/CD, observability.
• Technical leadership: sets direction and mentors engineers.
• Bonus: manufacturing test or operations experience.

What You'll Do

• Own the end-to-end stack behind the factory testing, traceability, and process control — from data capture at the test station, to databases, to dashboards/APIs
• Build robust, scalable AWS tooling that gets factory data to the teams that need it.
• Set standards for quality, security, observability, and release.
• Help shape the technical roadmap and make the architecture calls as volume grows.

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience building and shipping complex production systems.
• Strong, hands‑on AWS: can independently design and ship scalable, reliable tooling.
• Solid backend and data engineering: REST APIs, event‑driven and distributed services in Go or Python, databases, and data pipelines. Strong SQL.
• Experience building platform and infrastructure tooling at scale: AWS, Terraform, CI/CD, observability.
• A technical leader: sets technical direction and roadmaps, and grows engineers through hands‑on work and influence.
• Bonus: manufacturing test or operations experience — production line, hardware test, SPC, contract manufacturing.
