Job description

About Us

EPEC Group is a nationally recognised high-voltage engineering and EPC partner, providing HV power engineering, EPC (for substations, lines and BESS BoP), testing and compliance services, along with market modelling, SCADA and Hardware-in-the-Loop capability.

Since being founded in 2019, EPEC has grown rapidly to become a trusted delivery partner on some of Australia's most complex renewable energy projects, from 400 MW solar farms and 200 MW battery storage systems to 330 kV substations delivered for international developers entering the Australian market for the first time. Founded by specialists in power system engineering, project delivery and generator compliance, our mission is to simplify the grid connection process and remove the uncertainty that costs projects time and money.

We manage connections to the National Electricity Market (NEM) through end-to-end solutions, from pre-enquiry through to connection, registration, testing, compliance and commercial operations. What sets EPEC apart is that everything is delivered in-house: power system modelling, EPC construction, SCADA, commissioning and compliance testing, all under one roof and one point of accountability.

The Role

EPEC is establishing a presence in New Zealand and you would be the first person we hire there. Your first priority is to lead delivery of our first substation project in the country. Your next is to help us win and deliver the projects that follow.

Since 2019 EPEC has grown from 3 people to a nationally recognised name in renewable connections in Australia. We plan leverage that experience in New Zealand and this role will help build that pipeline. You will work with our delivery partners in the country and manage subcontractors on site.

Responsibilities
  • Lead delivery of our first New Zealand substation project from planning through to completion, within scope, schedule and budget
  • Develop project plans, schedules and resource strategies and monitor progress to catch issues early
  • Run risk assessments and regular project reviews with clear mitigation plans
  • Report status, milestones and risks to clients and EPEC leadership
  • Build strong relationships with clients, delivery partners and stakeholders
  • Support proposals, specification reviews and estimates as new opportunities arise
  • Lead WHS obligations and make sure works are safe and meet legislative and client requirements
About You

You are an experienced Senior Project Manager who knows how substation and grid projects get delivered in New Zealand. You communicate clearly and build trust quickly with clients and teams. You are also keen to be part of building something new.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Project Management or a related field
  • Demonstrated project management experience delivering high voltage substations, transmission lines or renewable projects
  • Working knowledge of New Zealand electricity industry standards and practices
  • Proven experience as a Project Manager, managing complex projects and subcontractors
  • Leadership skills with the ability to motivate cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across all stakeholder levels
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively under pressure
Why Join EPEC Group?

This is your chance to be EPEC's first hire in New Zealand. You will deliver our first project in the country and play a lead part in expanding us into a new market.

You will have the backing of the wider EPEC team and room to grow your role as our New Zealand pipeline develops.
