Job summary

Whānau Āwhina Plunket is New Zealand’s leading provider of health and wellbeing support for tamariki under five and their whānau. We seek a senior health and safety practitioner to own the safety system’s operational layer, turning policy into on-the-ground practice and verifying its effectiveness.

You will coach leaders, oversee critical risk and contractor safety, and drive business continuity and emergency planning across multiple sites, with senior autonomy and real influence.

Qualifications

• A tertiary qualification in health and safety, risk management or related field.
• Five+ years designing and operating a health and safety management system in a complex, multi-site organisation.
• Deep knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and its regulations.
• Demonstrated experience in contractor management and critical risk control verification.
• Ability to coach and influence leaders and managers, and build organisational capability.

Responsibilities

• Design, operate and improve Plunket's health and safety management system aligned to ISO 45001.
• Establish and maintain our critical risk programme with clear controls and named control owners.
• Run critical control verification so leaders can confirm in the field that controls are present and working.
• Lead investigations of significant incidents and implement improvements tracked to completion.
• Own contractor safety and collaborate with the Commercial and Property team on safety obligations.
• Develop and maintain business continuity, emergency and evacuation planning.
• Coach leaders to own safety responsibilities and check controls work in practice.
• Deliver a gap assessment of the safety management system with a remediation plan in year one.
