Job summary

Generate KiwiSaver Scheme is seeking a passionate Full Stack Engineer to join a brand-new platform team in NZ. You will shape the architecture, set engineering standards, and work hands-on across the full stack to deliver secure, scalable web and mobile experiences, APIs, and integrations.

You will influence technical direction, mentor teammates, and collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to turn ideas into high-quality solutions while driving CI/CD and DevOps improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in CS/IT or related field.
• 5+ years proven experience as a Full Stack Developer or similar role.
• Experience developing web-based and mobile applications.
• Experience with Vue 2/3, Nuxt 3, Typescript, NodeJS, or similar frameworks (React/Angular/Svelte).
• Familiarity with source control tools (Github).
• Proven experience building REST APIs.
• Architecture and design judgment to balance speed, scalability and simplicity.
• Full stack depth across front-end, API design, data modelling and infra.

About The Role

There are no direct reports and none planned - your influence comes through the quality of what you build, the standards you set and the engineers who become better by working alongside you. This is a brand-new platform, and you will be a key part of building it - not maintaining someone else's decisions. There is no legacy codebase to work around, no accumulated tech debt and no settled way of working to fit into. The architecture decisions, the patterns, the components and the standards will be yours to help shape.

You will work hands-on across the full stack - building responsive web and mobile experiences, designing and delivering APIs, integrating with external providers, and shipping through automated CI/CD pipelines on AWS. Because we operate in a regulated industry, you will build with compliance in mind, secure by design, well tested, and able to stand behind what you ship. Including:

• Build a brand-new platform from the ground up, shaping the architecture, technical standards and engineering best practices from day one.
• Develop secure, scalable web and mobile solutions, designing APIs, integrations and full stack applications that deliver exceptional customer experiences.
• Influence technical direction, contributing to architecture, design decisions and the engineering roadmap.
• Champion engineering excellence, leading through code reviews, mentoring teammates and embedding quality into everything you build.
• Collaborate across Product, Design and Engineering to turn ideas into elegant, high-quality solutions.
• Drive continuous improvement, enhancing CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices and development workflows as the platform evolves.

About You

Beyond your own output, you will raise the level of everyone around you - through code review, design discussion, mentoring and the quiet example of doing things properly. That is the multiplier we are hiring for - not someone who manages engineers, but someone who makes engineering better. You will also have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer or similar role (5+ years).
• Experience developing web-based and mobile applications.
• Experience with Vue 2 or 3, Nuxt 3, Typescript, NodeJS, or similar frameworks such as React, Angular, Svelte.
• Familiarity with source control tools (Github).
• Proven experience building REST API’s.
• Architecture and design judgment - you can weigh trade-offs between speed, scalability and simplicity, and explain your reasoning in a way both engineers and non-engineers can follow.
• Full stack depth - genuinely strong on both sides of the stack - comfortable moving between front-end componentry, API design, data modelling and infrastructure in the same week.
