Job summary

Ministry of Education - Education Services Group in New Zealand is seeking a Senior Education Advisor to strengthen school performance in Kerikeri or Kaitaia. You will work with school leaders and Boards of Trustees, using data and evidence to drive targeted improvement initiatives.

The role requires a relevant qualification or equivalent experience, strong analysis, and ability to develop relationships across Education Services.

Full-time, permanent role based in Kerikeri or Kaitaia, Te Tai Tokerau.

As a Senior Education Advisor, you will work directly with our tumuaki, senior school leaders, and Boards of Trustees on strengthening educational performance in schools and kura. You will ensure that sector leaders and the communities in which they operate have access to the expertise, programmes and resources that will allow our children and young people to reach their full potential.

You will be working as part of the Ministry of Education's regional team, using evidence and data on student achievement, and designing and implementing projects with schools to strengthen educational performance.

Salary range: $86,225 - $104,071 per annum + KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake

To be successful in this role, you will need:

A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent level of practical experience

Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with student achievement data to determine needs and priorities.

Experience in developing and implementing projects.

An ability to develop strong working relationships both within and outside the Ministry.

Understanding of education systems in New Zealand and relevant education legislation.

An understanding of te reo Māori ona tikanga.

Skills and experience in making a direct contribution to student achievement in both English and Māori-medium educational settings.

An understanding of factors which influence learner achievement and participation.

An understanding of National Education and Learner Priorities (NELP), Ka Hikitia, the Action Plan for Pacific Education, and Success for All and how these documents impact on this work.

The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tirirti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.

Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively across a diverse range of settings.

A current full driver's licence

The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

The Education Services Group provides well-designed, integrated education services that support the impactful and effective operation of education settings to support student achievement and participation. The services help to remove barriers to participation and learning and provide regulatory advice, support and oversight to early learning providers, schools and kura.

The Group has three key priorities for Education Services:

Practice & Guidance: Managing practice and guidance to improve national coordination and consistency, whilst enabling regional autonomy for education service delivery.

Integration & Delivery: Providing education support directly to education settings via integrated regional and national services. This includes intervening when necessary to ensure a high standard of operation to support student outcomes and owning key stakeholder relationships to support schooling improvement and stronger outcomes for learners.

Monitoring & Improvement: Monitoring and advising on improvements to the effectiveness, efficiency and equity of services for achievement and progression, and attendance and participation. This includes monitoring education provider performance against regulations and intervening as required.
