Job summary

DEFEND Limited in Wellington seeks a Senior Cybersecurity Operations Analyst to lead vulnerability management, threat hunting, and incident response. You will partner with customers to reduce risk and shape resilient cyberdefence.

You’ll own end-to-end processes, leverage modern tooling, and drive improvements across playbooks, detection, and reporting to inform executive decisions. This is an on-site role at customer premises in Wellington.

Qualifications

• Experience with vulnerability management platforms (e.g., Qualys, CrowdStrike).
• Solid grasp of risk prioritisation frameworks.
• Hands-on threat hunting and security operations experience.
• Experience with SIEM, EDR, and modern security tooling.
• Scripting/automation skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash or AI).
• Confident communicator who translates technical risk into business impact.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end vulnerability management across infra, endpoints, and applications.
• Identify, prioritise, and communicate risk from exposures to zero-days.
• Conduct proactive threat hunting using languages like KQL, CQL.
• Investigate and respond to real-world security incidents across identity, endpoints and network.
• Automate security operations using Python, PowerShell, Bash, or AI techniques.
• Partner with stakeholders to drive remediation and risk reduction.
• Deliver high-quality reporting and insights guiding decisions.
• Contribute to cloud security posture and hardening initiatives.
• continuously improve playbooks, processes, and detection capability.
