Qualifications

• Experience in customer-focused communications, media, journalism, public affairs, or stakeholder engagement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to simplify complex information for different audiences.
• Experience dealing with media queries and understanding media processes.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with senior leaders and stakeholders.
• Experience with crisis or incident communications is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Provide communications and media advice on organisational priorities, emerging issues, and reputational risks.
• Manage media enquiries (including after hours and at weekends as part of a team roster), and develop responses, key messages, and proactive media opportunities.
• Develop and deliver communications plans to support projects, initiatives, and key business activities.
• Create engaging content across a range of internal and external communication channels.
• Monitor media coverage and identify emerging trends, risks, and opportunities.
• Support communications responses during incidents, issues, and emergency events.
• Partner with colleagues across NZSPA to ensure communications are aligned, customer-focused, and delivered to a high standard.
• Contribute to communications projects that strengthen engagement with stakeholders, schools, and communities.
