Senior Associate Transmission Lines Engineer

Jacobs – Wellington, North Island

Your impact

Location: Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch

At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Our Energy and Power business are helping shape the future of energy infrastructure across New Zealand, Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region. We're looking for an experienced Senior Associate Transmission Lines Engineer to join our Lines team and play a key role in delivering transmission and renewable energy projects across the region.

This is an opportunity to join a well-established transmission lines team while contributing to some of the industry's most important challenges, from maintaining and upgrading existing transmission networks through to supporting the energy transition with major renewable and transmission developments.

What you'll do

You'll work across a diverse portfolio of transmission and energy infrastructure projects, including:

  • Transmission line design and upgrade projects
  • Clearance remediation programs
  • Structural assessments and tower strengthening
  • Foundation design and foundation remediation
  • Renewable energy and transmission network developments
  • Owner's Engineer and advisory assignments

You'll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams including geotechnical engineers, earthing and bonding specialists, project managers and other power professionals to deliver practical, technically robust solutions. While this role is based in New Zealand, you'll also have the opportunity to contribute to projects across Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region. For those interested, there may be opportunities for interstate or international travel and collaboration.

Beyond project delivery

We're looking for someone who enjoys being a trusted technical advisor and helping others succeed.

Depending on your interests and experience, you'll have opportunities to:

  • Mentor and develop graduate and early-career engineers
  • Provide technical leadership across transmission line projects
  • Build strong client relationships and support project growth
  • Contribute to the development of Jacobs' transmission capability across New Zealand, Australia and Asia.
Here's what you'll need

We're interested in hearing from engineers who bring:

  • Significant experience delivering transmission line projects within consulting, utility or contractor environments, with strong technical knowledge of transmission line structures, foundations and associated infrastructure.
  • A strong understanding of the New Zealand transmission sector, its stakeholders and project delivery environment.
  • Proven ability to lead technical delivery, review engineering work and provide guidance and mentorship to other engineers.
  • Strong client, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and identify opportunities for project growth.
  • A collaborative leadership style, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the development of Jacobs' transmission capability.
Why Jacobs?

While you'll work on key New Zealand transmission projects, you'll also be part of a broader Energy & Power business that operates across Australia and Asia Pacific. Our teams are connected by market rather than geography, creating opportunities to contribute to a wider range of projects than many local consultancies can offer.

Whether your interest lies in transmission networks, renewable energy zones, owner's engineer services or international project delivery, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside specialists from across the region while continuing to grow your technical and leadership capability.

If you're looking for a senior role where you can combine technical delivery, client engagement and mentoring while helping shape the future of transmission infrastructure, we'd love to hear from you.
