Job summary

Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) in Wellington is seeking a Senior Policy Analyst (Aquaculture) to join the Aquaculture Policy team within the Policy & Trade directorate. The role leads policy and regulatory work to enable sustainable growth of New Zealand's aquaculture sector.

You will develop evidence-based advice for Ministers and Cabinet, navigate government processes, and build strong relationships with stakeholders across government, industry and iwi.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in a policy-related role within government or complex policy environments.
• Strong ability to navigate Cabinet and parliamentary processes.
• Proven capability to develop high-quality policy and regulatory advice.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex aquaculture policy and regulatory projects from development through to implementation.
• Develop clear, evidence-based advice for Ministers, Cabinet and other decision-makers.
• Work through complex system, legislative and implementation challenges to support Government priorities.
• Build trusted relationships across MPI, government agencies, industry stakeholders, councils, iwi and Treaty partners.
• Contribute to major aquaculture reform programmes, including planning system and legislative reform initiatives.
• Support policy capability through coaching, mentoring and sharing expertise with other analysts.
