Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) is seeking a Senior/Animal Welfare Inspector in Dunedin. The role combines field and office work to lead animal welfare and NAIT investigations, ensuring compliance across MPI systems and engaging with farmers, industry partners, and co‑regulators.

You will hold statutory appointments and progress cases to protect New Zealand’s primary sector. Experience in animal welfare, investigations, and regulatory enforcement is valued, along with strong relationship

Qualifications

• Experience or qualification in animal welfare or regulatory investigations.
• Ability to manage multiple investigations and prioritise work.
• Stakeholder liaison with partners such as SPCA, NZ Police, and industry groups.

Responsabilités

• Hold statutory appointments as Animal Welfare Inspector and NAIT Officer.
• Lead investigations and prepare prosecution files where required.
• Contribute to readiness and response activities using CIMS framework.
• Build relationships with internal and external partners including SPCA and NAIT.
• Update investigation reports in MPI data systems.
• Be prepared to travel regionally and nationally as needed.
