About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Senior Advisor, Online Channels to lead the refresh of the Unit Titles website and drive improvements that make it easier for New Zealanders to find, understand and use information and services.

This fixed-term role will focus on delivering a modern, user-centred website that aligns with New Zealand Government standards for digital content, usability, accessibility and design. You'll bring expertise in UX and content design, applying evidence-based approaches to improve customer journeys and ensuring content and design work together to meet user needs.

Working closely with subject matter experts, service owners, technical partners and delivery teams, you'll lead discovery, content review, information architecture, user testing and content design activities to create a website that is intuitive, inclusive and effective.

As a senior practitioner and advocate for UX and content design, you will help embed MBIE's standards and best practices, championing accessible and customer-centred digital experiences that deliver measurable outcomes.

What You'll Do:

• Lead the planning, design and delivery of the Unit Titles website refresh, ensuring content, information architecture and user experience work together to deliver meaningful customer outcomes.
• Identify user needs through research, analytics, customer feedback and stakeholder engagement, translating insights into practical improvements.
• Apply UX design principles, usability standards and evidence-based design practices to improve task completion and customer satisfaction.
• Design and structure content using plain language, content patterns and accessibility best practice to ensure information is clear, useful and easy to understand.
• Review and improve information architecture, navigation and content structures to enhance findability and usability.
• Plan and facilitate usability testing and content evaluation activities, using insights to iteratively improve the user experience.
• Work closely with subject matter experts to develop content that is accurate, compliant and focused on user needs.
• Translate complex legislation, policy and technical information into clear, accessible and actionable content.
• Provide strategic advice on UX, content design, accessibility, analytics and digital best practice to support evidence-based decision-making.
• Monitor and evaluate website performance using analytics and customer insights, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Champion the New Zealand Government Web Standards, Accessibility Standard and Usability Standard across the project.
• Navigate ambiguity and change with a collaborative, customer-centred and solutions-focused approach.

Skills and Experience Required

• Proven experience leading digital initiatives with demonstrated ability to manage digital portfolios and deliver through agile or iterative processes.
• Deep expertise in UX and content design, including hands-on experience implementing UX and content design principals across digital products.
• Strong understanding of UX and content design principals, including user research, information architecture, interaction design, and usability evaluation.
• An analytical mindset with the ability to integrate insights gleaned from multiple data sources (quantitative and qualitative research, website data, desktop research) and apply these to improve user experiences, shape UX and content.
• Ability to work collaboratively across teams, influencing and guiding others toward accessible and user centred outcomes.
• Deep knowledge and significant experience working with CMS platforms (ideally Silverstripe).
• Knowledge of privacy, security, and government digital standards.
• Excellent communication skills — able to translate complex technical or regulatory concepts into clear, accessible language.
• Demonstratable success in building professional relationships with senior leaders, internal and external business partners, colleagues, delivery partners, and stakeholders.
• Experience in mentoring and coaching others to improve their skill sets in UX and content design.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and to applying tikanga Māori and inclusive practice in your day-to-day work.
• Between 3 to 5 years working as a Senior in online channels or similar digital roles with a focus on UX and content design.
