Job summary

DOC seeks a Ranger for a fixed-term, seasonal role based in Queenstown. You’ll maintain visitor amenities across the Wakatipu District, performing mowing, weed control, water maintenance, and general site upkeep to keep toilets, carparks, reserves and campgrounds welcoming for visitors.

Travel throughout the district is required; backcountry work may be needed. A First Aid certificate and a full driver’s licence are essential, with training provided for equipment use.

Qualifications

• Experience with weed eaters and scrub bars.
• Weed spraying (knapsack 15ltr) experience preferred.
• Basic maintenance of small petrol engines and engines.
• Experience operating small lawn tractors and mowers.
• First Aid certificate and valid driver’s licence required.
• Knowledge of field delivery work and horticulture basics.
• Proficiency with basic computing devices and apps.
• Backcountry/tramping experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Maintain visitor amenities: toilets, carparks, reserves, camping grounds.
• Carry out field tasks: mowing, weed control, water supply maintenance, upkeep.
• Support visitor experiences via site monitoring and campground compliance.
• Travel across the Wakatipu District to service multiple sites.
• Training on equipment provided; occasional overnight backcountry work.
