Job summary

Clutha District Council is seeking a Reticulation Technician to join our rural water team in Balclutha. This field-based role keeps our community’s water services running smoothly and safely through hands-on inspections and readings.

You’ll inspect tanks and restrictors, read meters for accurate billing, service pressure reducing valves, and maintain high standards of safety and hygiene while working outdoors in all conditions.

Qualifications

• Experience/qualifications in water services, utilities, or a trade.
• Comfortable working outdoors in all conditions.
• Full driver licence (essential) and commitment to safe work practices.

Responsibilities

• Complete annual tank and restrictor inspections.
• Carrying out urban and rural water meter readings for billing accuracy.

The purpose of the role

This is a hands-on, field-based position where no two days are the same. As a Reticulation Technician, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring reliable water services by:

• Completing annual tank and restrictor inspections
• Carrying out urban and rural water meter readings that keep our billing accurate and up to date
• Inspecting and servicing pressure reducing valves (PRVs) to keep our systems safe and efficient
• Always working in an environmentally safe and hygienic manner

What we’re looking for:

We need someone who is practical, reliable, and enjoys solving problems on the go.

• Previous experience/qualifications in water services, utilities, or a trade is a plus
• Comfortable working outdoors in all conditions
• Detail-oriented with good record-keeping skills
• A strong communicator who can work independently but is also a team player
• Someone with a full driver licence (essential) and a commitment to safe work practices
