Job summary

Ember Group is seeking a Residential Support Worker for the Poutama service in Swanson, West Auckland. The role involves supporting residents with mental health and addiction recovery, and working across a 24/7 rotating roster including AM/PM/Awake shifts.

The service operates from a dedicated 8-bed facility, offering pathways to recovery, professional development, and inclusive, culturally responsive care. Applicants should have a NZ driver’s licence and visa/residency eligibility.

Qualifications

• Have/are working towards a National Certificate in Health and Wellbeing L4 or equivalent.
• Have experience working with Mental Health and/or Addictions.
• Full NZ Drivers Licence.
• Valid/Current work visa, residency, or citizenship.
• Be able to work in a team with a bicultural perspective.

Responsibilities

• Support residents in mental health and addiction recovery, from practical help to therapeutic support.
• Work within a clinical and support team applying harm reduction principles.
• Uphold professional boundaries and ethics in daily care.

Job description

Residential Support Worker

• Permanent, Full-time – 32 hours per week

• Service operates 24 hours, 7days a week on a rotating roster (AM/PM/Awake Shifts)

• Poutama is based in Swanson, Auckland

• Ember Support Worker Pay Rates: $25.63 - $30.70ph (depending on qualification held and its equivalence to the NZ Certificate in Health and Wellbeing L4, with stepped increases based on tenure).

The Service | Ko Te Whare O Poutama

Poutama is an 8-bed residential facility based in West Auckland. The service employs both clinical and support workers who collaborate with the residents to help them recover from mental health and addiction issues.

Poutama was the very first service in New Zealand to operate a ‘harm reduction’ philosophy, which has brought both unparalleled success and unique challenges. Accessed through the Waitemata District Health Board Adult Mental Health Services, most people stay for no more than one year.

Support Workers/Kaimahi, we believe, are the key ingredient for successful client outcomes. With our model of working, you will utilise your experience, skills, and knowledge of mental health rehabilitation to overcome any obstacles and barriers our whai ora may face.

Above all, we are looking for those who can embrace the breadth and variety of the role, which ranges from basic practical help to pioneering therapeutic support.

• Have/are working towards a National Certificate in Health and Wellbeing L4 or equivalent.

• Have experience working with Mental Health and/or Addictions

• Have the ability to work in a team environment and from a bicultural perspective.

• Be professional and have good boundaries and ethics.

• Have experience working in the area of mental health and/or addictions (alcohol and other drugs)

• Full NZ Drivers Licence

• Valid/Current work visa, residency, or citizenship

• Have a passion for walking along side those in need, supporting on-going goals on the pathway to recovery.
