Job summary

Selwyn District Council in Rolleston, NZ is seeking a Team Leader Residential Inspections to lead our Building Surveyors and manage residential inspection workflows.

You will ensure compliance with the Building Act and NZ Building Code, while coaching your team, coordinating workloads, and driving continuous improvement across quality systems. This role requires strong leadership and customer-focused service delivery.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in people management.
• 5+ years in a BCA inspecting/processing environment.
• Understanding of the Building Act and Building Regulations; NZ Building Code.
• Ability to communicate complex building information to customers.

Responsibilities

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of Building Surveyors.
• Manage residential inspection and certification workflows for efficient service delivery.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, accreditation standards, and business KPIs.
• Provide technical leadership and specialist advice on residential building matters.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and succession planning.
• Build strong relationships with customers, industry stakeholders, MBIE, and IANZ.
• Manage customer enquiries, complaints, and complex technical issues.
• Drive continuous improvement across policies, processes, and quality systems.
• Conduct quality and technical audits to support compliance and best practice.
• Support emergency building safety assessments when required.
