Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Substation Design Engineer to join remotely, supporting vital HV substations projects across NZ. You will lead design activities, produce SLDs, specify equipment, and ensure compliance with IEEE/IEC standards while coordinating with managers and clients.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years in substation design, strong CAD skills, and proven ability to work effectively in a remote environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years in substation design and power systems.
• Proficient with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical).
• Understanding of high-voltage equipment and protection schemes.
• Experience with grounding design and site layout.
• Strong remote work communication and project management.

Responsibilities

• Lead HV substation design, including SLDs, equipment layouts, and wiring schematics.
• Select substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, busbars, and relays.
• Perform load flow, short circuit, and grounding studies.
• Ensure designs meet IEEE/IEC standards and client specs.
• Coordinate with project managers, field engineers, and clients.
• Develop and review technical specifications, BOMs, and cost estimates.
