Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora - Lakes invites applications for an experienced Neonatal Registered Nurse to join the Wahanga Piripoho Neonatal Unit at Tauranga Hospital. The Level 2 unit delivers high dependency care including CPAP, High Flow, TPN and stabilisation before transfer to a NICU.

Ideal candidates will have NZ Nursing Council registration, 2+ years in neonatal care, strong organisation and communication skills, and a compassionate, family‑centred approach within a collaborative

Qualifications

• Current New Zealand Nursing Council registration and Annual Practicing Certificate
• Minimum two years post-graduate experience as a Registered Nurse, in Neonatal care
• Proven organisational and communication skills
• Ability to contribute effectively to a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
• A compassionate, family-centred approach to patient care

Responsibilities

• Provide neonatal care within a Level 2 unit offering high dependency care (CPAP, High Flow, TPN) and stabilisation before transfer to NICU
• Work effectively in a team environment to support colleagues and whānau on the care journey
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality neonatal care
• Contribute to ongoing care planning and family-centred communication

About the Role

Are you an experienced Neonatal Registered Nurse with a passion for Neonatal care? Join our friendly team at Tauranga Hospitals Neonatal Unit (Wahanga Piripoho).

The Neonatal Unit is a Level 2 unit with 12 cots. We provide high dependency care including CPAP, High Flow, TPN and the stabilisation of infants requiring intensive care before transfer to a NICU.

We are looking for candidates with strong organisation and communication skills who thrive in a team environment. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable newborns and their Whanau.

Wahanga Piripoho Neonatal Unit provides specialised care for pēpi and whānau across the Bay of Plenty. The team is skilled, collaborative, and committed to delivering high-quality neonatal care in a supportive environment. Based at Tauranga Hospital, the service combines the pace and complexity of secondary care with the lifestyle benefits of coastal living.

About You

The successful candidate will be an experienced Registered Nurse with excellent organisational and communication skills. The role requires the ability to work effectively in a team environment, supporting both colleagues and whānau in the care journey.
