Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking an experienced registered nurse to join the Emergency Department in Dunedin on a 0.8 FTE basis (64 hours per fortnight). The role sits on the RN scale between step 2 and step 7, with salary band $81,000–$106,000 p.a. prorata plus Kiwisaver.

You'll work within triage, rapid assessment and resuscitation areas, delivering high-quality acute care and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

  • Current registration with the New Zealand Nursing Council and a current APC.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively with other professionals
  • Excellent time management, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • The ability to be adaptable, flexible and solution focused
  • Previous experience in an acute setting would be an advantage

Responsibilities

  • Provide high‑quality nursing care in the Emergency Department, including triage and resuscitation areas.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver timely patient care.
  • Develop skills through orientation and ongoing professional development.
  • Adapt to a dynamic ED environment with flexibility and problem‑solving.

About the role

The Emergency Department includes

  • A triage area, a rapid assessment area, dedicated resuscitation areas, acute, sub-acute and paediatric cubicles along with ambulatory care spaces.
  • Acute cares for adults and paediatrics including full patient resuscitation facilities, management of trauma, fractures, injuries and so much more.
  • Develop your skills in this area of nursing including: a comprehensive orientation programme;
  • On-going development in emergency nursing skills e.g. Trauma Nursing Core Course, Triage Course, and Advanced Life Support.
  • A dynamic and interesting area to work.

Salary range

This role belongs to the expired NZNO Collective Agreement and falls between the step 2 ($81,683 p.a) and Step 7 ($106,739 p.a prorata) of the RN scale
