About the hospital

Southern Cross Wellington Hospital is a private surgical hospital and integrated, purpose‑built specialist consulting centre. Originally established in 1992, the hospital currently includes day procedure facilities, five operating theatres and a modern intensive care unit. Specialities include orthopaedic surgery, major spinal surgery, neurosurgery, upper gastrointestinal surgery, general surgery, colorectal surgery, gynaecology, urology, and ophthalmology. We provide excellent peri‑operative services to over 5,000 patients annually across a range of ages.

About the role

We are looking for a compassionate and professional Registered Nurse to join our team in a full‑time role, Monday to Friday. This is a dynamic position that spans Urology, Gynaecology, and General Surgery, offering variety and the opportunity to work closely with medical specialists in a patient‑focused environment.

Reporting to the Practice Manager, you’ll play a key role in supporting doctors during clinics, coordinating patient lists, and responding to patient queries. The role combines clinical care with administrative responsibilities, requiring someone who is organised, adaptable, and confident working across multiple specialties.

You’ll be part of a collaborative team committed to delivering safe, high‑quality, and culturally sensitive care. Your ability to build therapeutic relationships, communicate effectively, and maintain resilience in a fast‑paced setting will be essential.

Skills and experience
  • Current New Zealand Registered Nurse practising certificate
  • Minimum of two years’ clinical experience, ideally within surgical outpatient settings such as Urology, Gynaecology, or General Surgery
  • Ability to work flexibly across multiple specialties and adapt to changing clinic needs
  • Strong clinical assessment and coordination skills, including managing patient lists and supporting consultations
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, can‑do attitude
  • Previous experience in private healthcare is an advantage
