Job summary

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) invites applications for a Senior Regional Forest Adviser to lead forestry guidance in the Dunedin region.

You will provide technical advice across the forest lifecycle, build partnerships with landowners and stakeholders, and help promote sustainable land use and regional growth.

This permanent, full-time role requires a strong forestry background, collaboration skills, and the ability to navigate regulation and complex environmental considerations.

Qualifications

• NZQA Level 5 qualification or higher in forestry or related subject.
• At least five years' experience providing advice within the forestry ecosystem.
• Experience across the forestry lifecycle.
• Experience with native and/or exotic afforestation.
• Understanding of government regulation within the primary sector.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical information and advice across all stages of the forest lifecycle.
• Act as trusted adviser to landowners and forestry participants.
• Build and maintain regional networks to encourage collaboration.
• Coach and mentor less experienced advisers.
• Contribute to MPI responses when required.
