Job summary

Ministry for Primary Industries in Christchurch is seeking a Regional Adviser to work with farmers, growers and rural communities across Canterbury. You will build trusted relationships, provide practical solutions and support initiatives that boost productivity and sustainability.

The role is based in Christchurch and involves driving field activities and workshops. The ideal candidate will know NZ agriculture, excel in stakeholder engagement, and manage networks while working independently.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of New Zealand agriculture and/or horticulture.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective networks.
• Sound problem-solving and communication skills.
• Strong organisation skills and the ability to work independently.
• Understanding of rural communities and the issues that matter to them.
• A current & valid full New Zealand driver's licence is essential.

Responsibilities

• Support farmers and growers with practical advice, connections and resources.
• Build strong relationships across industry, government and rural communities.
• Support catchment groups and extension activities that improve farming and environmental outcomes.
• Deliver workshops, projects and sector initiatives.
• Help communities prepare for, respond to and recover from adverse events.
