Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific Penrose facility in Auckland is seeking a quality control professional to support testing and release of our products. You will work in a GMP-compliant lab, performing QC analyses and ensuring data accuracy to support the manufacture of sera, cell culture media and related products.

The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, following ISO9001 and cGMP standards, and maintaining strict safety practices with PPE.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary Science qualification; bachelor preferred.
  • 1–3 years experience in manufacturing or laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of ISO9001 and cGMP regulatory standards.
  • Computer literacy: word processing, spreadsheets, databases.

Responsibilities

  • Perform QC analyses and record observations with accuracy.
  • Record, analyze and trend QC data in forms (paper/electronic).
  • Order and maintain stock and storage conditions for samples/chemicals.
  • Support QC documentation including SOPs and forms.
  • Communicate effectively across departments and with internal customers.
  • Conduct investigations, root cause analysis and CAPA.
  • Participate in training and PPI activities.
  • Perform microbiological and biochemical tests or related lab activities.
  • Contribute to deviation or OOS investigations in Quality Control.
  • Contribute to quality and process improvement initiatives.
  • Observe safety rules and PPE usage; report accidents and near misses.
  • Work core hours 8.00 – 4.30pm Mon-Fri; start earlier preferred.

Location/Division Specific Information

Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Penrose facility in Auckland produces a range of sera, cell culture media and freeze-dried powder products, which are sold under Thermo Fisher Scientific’s market leading Gibco brand and are used globally in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry.

About the Role:

You’ll be part of a friendly and dynamic team that supports our customers in the development of life changing drugs and vaccines. In this role, you will mainly be supporting the Quality Control function by performing Quality Control testing and release of company products.

What You'll Do:
  • Performing QC analyses and associated tasks as per standard procedures, make observations and interpret findings.
  • Recording, analyzing and trending QC data in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility.
  • Ordering and maintenance of stock and resources, ensuring correct storage conditions for samples and chemicals.
  • Facilitate quality control documentation (SOP’s, Standard Forms) including writing, reviewing and issuing documents.
  • Communicate effectively across departments and with internal customers.
  • Conducting and supporting investigations, root cause analysis and CAPA
  • Take part in training and PPI activities.
  • Perform Microbiological and Biochemical tests or other laboratory related activities.
  • Take active part in deviation or OOS investigations related to Quality Control activities.
  • Conceive and participate in quality improvement initiatives and process improvement.
  • Observe all safety rules which are established to maintain safe work practices, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE). Conduct proactive hazard identification and report any accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Core business hours 8.00 – 4.30pm Monday to Friday, starting earlier in the day preferred.
Education
  • Tertiary Science Qualification, bachelor preferred
Experience
  • 1-3 Experience working in a manufacturing or laboratory environment, preferred
  • Knowledge of quality control laboratory methods, quality assurance methods, and regulatory compliance standards including ISO9001 and general cGMP requirements.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, database applications.
