Job description
About The Role:

We are looking for a skilled Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer to join our Inhouse Development team at Tuatahi. This team builds and supports custom software solutions that underpin our operational platforms, including APIs, integrations, services, and customer portals.

While your home team will be Inhouse Development, your impact will extend across the broader Digital Transformation ecosystem - collaborating with other QA Engineers and delivery teams to validate complex, cross-platform workflows and deliver consistent user and operational outcomes.

This is more than just a test execution role. You will help define quality practices, shape behavioural scenarios, uplift automation, and drive continuous improvement across testing standards and environments.

What you will do:
  • Ensure quality across custom-built APIs, integrations, services, and customer-facing portals.
  • Validate end-to-end workflows that span multiple systems and delivery teams.
  • Shape clear, testable acceptance criteria and behavioural scenarios early in the lifecycle.
  • Guide test execution and automation, ensuring alignment with quality standards and CI/CD practices.
  • Maintain test environments and support stable, consistent test data across cycles.
  • Provide quality insights and risk indicators to support decision-making.
  • Collaborate with the QA guild to promote consistent tools, frameworks, and testing practices.
Your unique contribution:

You will lead the charge in embedding quality early in the development lifecycle, ensuring behavioural scenarios and automated tests meet exacting standards and deliver genuine business value.

Your role will help maintain structured and repeatable testing that supports both technical accuracy and business needs.

Across the wider Digital Transformation environment, you will help validate end-to-end scenarios that span multiple applications and system interactions. By working collaboratively with other QA Engineers, you will support a shared quality culture and help ensure that the combined platform behaves reliably and delivers consistent value.

As part of the QA chapter, you will contribute to the refinement of shared frameworks, environment stability, test data governance, and automation maturity across the organisation.

You will also need:
  • A relevant tertiary qualification, ISTQB certification, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in software testing with strong knowledge of modern testing methods and tools.
  • Proven experience applying behavioural testing approaches such as BDD, scenario modelling, or structured acceptance criteria.
  • Strong understanding of API testing, integration testing, and testing for distributed systems.
  • Experience in exploratory testing, performance testing, or test automation.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Why Tuatahi is the Place for You:
  • Medical and Life Insurance: Comprehensive cover to protect your health and security.
  • Utilities Rebate: Support with essential home costs like power and fibre.
  • Refer-a-Friend Bonus: Bring great people into the team and get rewarded.
  • Volunteer Day: One paid day each year to give back to your community.
  • Wellbeing Leave: A wellbeing day every six months to recharge or take care of life admin.
  • Parental Leave Support: Salary top-ups and support to help you focus on family.
