Job summary

New Zealand School Property Agency (NZSPA) is seeking a capable Finance Leader to oversee financial control, external reporting and transactional finance functions. You will report to the Finance Director, manage a team, ensure accurate financial statements, and drive continuous improvement in processes and controls across the agency.

This senior role requires strong advisory capability, extensive public sector experience, and the ability to partner with senior stakeholders to safeguard assets

Qualifications

• Senior leadership experience in a large, complex organisation.
• Proven track record in financial control, compliance and reporting.
• Tertiary qualification in Finance/Accounting and CA ANZ membership.
• Strong knowledge of public sector budgeting and reporting requirements.
• Experience leading system and process improvements.

Responsibilities

• Lead financial accounting, external reporting, payments and revenue functions.
• Ensure statutory reporting, audits and financial statements are timely and accurate.
• Maintain strong financial controls, compliance and risk management.
• Drive automation and improvements in financial systems and processes.
• Oversee tax compliance, cash management and balance sheet integrity.
• Support budget updates and broader appropriation management.
• Provide strategic financial advice to senior leaders.
