Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Gisborne Hospital is seeking a Psychiatric Registrar to deliver mental health assessments and treatments across inpatient and community settings. You will work under specialist supervision within a multidisciplinary team, with outpatient clinics, ward duties, and on-call shifts across the Tairāwhiti region.

Ideal candidates hold a medical degree with basic psychiatry training, are eligible for NZ registration, and demonstrate commitment to Te Tiriti principles

Qualifications

• Medical degree and basic training in psychiatry, progressing toward Fellowship.
• Ability to handle high-pressure situations with compassionate care.
• NZ/Australian registration eligibility.
• Competency with Te Ao Māori, Tikanga, and Te reo Māori or willingness to start learning.

Responsibilities

• Deliver mental health assessments and treatments for hospital and community patients.
• Carry out outpatient clinics and ward work.
• Perform on‑call duties with supervision from a psychiatrist.
• Work within a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care.
