Job description

Hawke's Bay | Fixed term to May 2027 | $170,000 to $200,000 + vehicle

Lead the delivery of critical wastewater infrastructure

Seipp Construction is looking for an experienced Project Manager or Senior Project Manager to take ownership of Stage 1 of the East Clive Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade.

This is a defined project assignment through to May 2027, leading the construction of a new permanent outfall pump station within a live wastewater treatment plant.

The pump station will be approximately six metres in diameter and nine metres deep, with associated pipework and infrastructure. It is a technically challenging build and an important part of a wider $23 million upgrade that will help Hastings District Council maintain safe and reliable wastewater services and strengthen the resilience of the network into the future.

You will lead the team, control the programme and take ownership of the commercial and delivery outcomes through to completion.

The role

This is a hands-on project leadership role with clear accountability for Stage 1.

You will:

Lead the project team and set clear delivery priorities

Manage the construction programme, cost, quality and commercial performance

Plan and coordinate work within a live operational environment

Manage subcontractors, suppliers and construction interfaces

Build productive relationships with the client, consultants and key stakeholders

Manage project risks, variations and emerging issues

Lead strong safety, environmental and quality performance

Keep communication clear and ensure issues are addressed early

Create a project environment where people work well together and follow through on what they commit to

You will be supported by an experienced delivery team and Seipp's wider operational, commercial, engineering and HSEQ capability. You will have ownership of the project, but you will not be expected to deliver it alone.

About you

You may already be working project to project, coming to the end of your current assignment, or ready to take on a defined piece of work where you can make an immediate impact.

You may be an established Project Manager ready to lead a complex infrastructure build, or a Senior Project Manager who can bring the depth of experience needed to take control quickly and guide the wider project team.

You are likely to bring:

Proven experience delivering significant civil infrastructure projects in New Zealand

Strong programme, commercial and financial management capability

Experience managing subcontractors, variations, project reporting and client relationships

Knowledge of New Zealand construction contracts, ideally NZS 3910 or NZS 3916

Experience with three waters, pump stations, deep structures, pipelines, complex concrete construction or mechanical interfaces

The ability to lead site teams and hold people accountable while maintaining strong working relationships

Calm, practical judgement and a solutions-focused approach

A visible and uncompromising commitment to safety, quality and environmental performance

Direct wastewater experience would be valuable, but it is not essential if you have successfully led comparable complex civil infrastructure work.

Just as importantly, you will communicate openly, support the people around you, deal with issues early and take personal responsibility for delivering what you commit to.

What’s on offer

We are open to appointing at either Project Manager or Senior Project Manager level. The position and remuneration offered will reflect the experience, technical capability and level of project leadership you bring.

The package includes:

Salary of $170,000 to $200,000 per annum

Company vehicle

A defined project assignment through to May 2027

Support from an experienced project team and Seipp's wider specialist functions

Private health insurance after the qualifying period

The opportunity to deliver a significant and technically interesting piece of infrastructure

The role is based at East Clive in Hawke's Bay. For candidates based elsewhere, we are open to agreeing a working-away arrangement, including accommodation, travel and a working-away allowance in addition to the salary package.

Although this position is initially fixed term through to May 2027, there may be opportunities to move onto future Seipp projects in Auckland, Wellington or the South Island, depending on our project pipeline and mutual fit.
