You’ll join a team that values collaboration, innovation, and community impact. Together, we're on track to being one of New Zealand's leading community-focused councils, where everyone matters and every contribution helps shape the future of our city.

If you're looking for meaningful work, a supportive team, and the opportunity to make a real difference in your community, you'll find it here.

Job Description
He angituutanga: The opportunity
Are you an experienced Project Manager

who thrives on leading complex capital projects from concept through to completion? We're looking for a technically capable and commercially astute professional to join our Design and Delivery team and help deliver projects that shape Hamilton's future.

This is an opportunity to lead a range of capital projects across the full project lifecycle, from straightforward renewals and facility upgrades through to more complex and higher-risk projects, applying disciplined project management practices, strong commercial oversight and collaborative stakeholder management to achieve successful outcomes.

You’ll work closely with technical specialists, consultants, contractors, governance groups, stakeholders, and the wider community, balancing competing priorities while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the quality standards expected by Council.

You’ll have a background in HVAC, mechanical services, building systems, construction, facilities or vertical infrastructure would be advantageous, but candidates must be able to demonstrate successful delivery of capital projects and strong project management capability.

What you’ll bring
  • Experience managing capital projects across the full project lifecycle, including planning, procurement, delivery and handover.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to understand and manage budgets, contracts, procurement processes, project risks and market realities, not just project schedules.
  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting and cost control.
  • Experience managing consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • The ability to communicate technical, commercial and project information to a range of audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trusted working relationships.
  • Experience preparing governance reporting and supporting decision-making.
  • Sound risk management capability, including identifying and managing project risks, issues and dependencies.
  • The ability to work confidently with technical specialists and subject matter experts.
  • A collaborative and outcome-focused approach
