Job summary

Metlen Energy & Metals Plc is seeking a Project Engineer – Civil to join our site team in Edgecumbe, Bay of Plenty. You will lead on-site civil and mechanical engineering activities for large-scale solar farm projects, ensuring safety, quality and on-time delivery.

You will review drawings, coordinate contractors, manage planning, and support cost management while upholding our HSE standards and project governance. This is a full-time role with fixed-term contract terms.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering civil and mechanical projects on-site.
• Review drawings, specs and IFC documentation to ensure works meet design.
• Assist with resolving constructability issues and design queries with the team.
• Coordinate daily site activities with civil and mechanical contractors and subcontractors.
• Support cost planning, variations and change events with project controls and reporting.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-site engineering leadership for civil and mechanical scopes including earthworks, roads, drainage, foundations, tracker structures, piling and mechanical installation activities.
• Review and interpret drawings, specifications, IFC documentation, and technical standards to ensure works are delivered per approved design.
• Assist with resolving constructability issues and design queries in collaboration with design and site management.
• Coordinate daily site activities with contractors, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure progress is safe and efficient.
• Monitor productivity, assist with budget considerations, and support change management and cost impacts.

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer – Civil to join our site team. Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the safe, compliant and efficient delivery of civil works on Metlen’s large-scale solar farm projects.

Location: Edgecumbe, Bay of Plenty

Contract Type: Full time, fixed term

As a Project Engineer – Civil, your key responsibilities will include:

Site Engineering & Construction Support

• Provide on-site engineering leadership for civil and mechanical scopes including earthworks, access roads, drainage, foundations, tracker structures, piling, and mechanical installation activities.
• Review and interpret drawings, specifications, IFC documentation, and technical standards to ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved design.
• Assist with resolving constructability issues, technical queries, and design issues/queries in collaboration with the design and site management.

Site Coordination & Contractor Management

• Assist the Site Supervisor/Superintendent to coordinate daily site activities with civil and mechanical contractors, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure works progress safely and efficiently.
• Support planning and sequencing of civil and mechanical works in line with the construction programme, milestone requirements and interfaces with other disciplines.
• Monitor productivity and identify constraints impacting delivery, escalating risks or delays as required.
• Assist the Supervisor with ensuring project budgets related to engineering civil and mechanical scope are in line with the approved project cost plan.
• Review, assess, and support the management of variations, claims, and change events, including preparation of cost impacts and recommendations for approval.
• Work closely with the Project Manager, and Construction team to identify cost risks, opportunities, and mitigation strategies.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Conduct site inspections and verification of works to ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and approved methodologies.
• Support inspection and test plans (ITPs), hold points, and quality documentation for civil and mechanical scopes.
• Ensure works comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements relevant to solar farm construction.
• Health, Safety & Environment
• Actively promote a strong safety culture on site and ensure works are carried out in accordance with site HSE plans and procedures.
• Participate in site safety walks, toolbox talks, and incident investigations as required.
• Work with HSE personnel to minimise environmental impacts, including erosion control, drainage management, and site rehabilitation.

Reporting & Documentation

• Maintain accurate site records, including daily reports, progress updates, non-conformances, and technical registers.
• Provide regular progress and technical updates to Management.
