Job summary

Westpac New Zealand seeks a Programme Test Manager to deliver independent programme-level assurance for Digital 2.0, ensuring an integrated, production-ready ecosystem of customer-facing and technology-facing services. The Programme Test Manager provides independent programme-level assurance that Digital 2.0 delivers an integrated, production-ready ecosystem of customer-facing and technology-facing services.

The role operates from an end-to-end customer journey and business process perspective, ensuring solutions deliver the intended customer, operational and business outcomes.

The role champions modern Quality Engineering practices, embedding quality through automation, continuous testing, Shift Left principles and risk-based assurance.

Working across all Digital 2.0 delivery streams, the role provides leadership with a clear, evidence-based view of quality, readiness and residual risk while enabling delivery teams to own quality outcomes.

The role will leverage existing quality engineering practices, processes and ways of working where they are effective, introducing additional guardrails, standards and practices only where material gaps, inconsistencies or risks are identified.

Delivery teams remain accountable for component-level quality outcomes and execution of testing activities within their scope. The Programme Test Manager provides programme-level governance, assurance, standards, reporting and oversight.

  • Leadership has a clear, evidence-based view of programme quality, readiness and residual risk, enabling informed delivery and release decisions.
  • Delivery teams own quality outcomes, while customer journeys, business processes and integrated services are validated and released with confidence.
  • Testing practices, governance and evidence remain aligned with WNZL Testing Controls, Standards and audit requirements
  • SDLC metrics provide transparent visibility of quality, progress, readiness and delivery risk across the programme.

Customer & Quality Assurance

Provide programme-level assurance that solutions deliver the intended customer journeys, business processes and business outcomes. Ensure quality is assessed across digital channels, MarTech capabilities, data flows, integrated services, operational hand-offs and supporting technology platforms. Establish governance and oversight to ensure functional, integration, security and non-functional testing is planned and executed effectively across delivery teams.

Quality Engineering & Shift Left

Champion modern Quality Engineering practices, embedding automation, continuous testing, Shift Left principles and risk-based assurance across the programme. Establish quality standards, guardrails and practices that enable delivery teams to own quality outcomes and operate effectively and autonomously. Support the evolution of testing and quality practices to align with New Ways of Working, data-driven services and AI-enabled capabilities.

Test Strategy, Governance & Standards

Establish programme testing, quality and environment management strategies. Align programme delivery with WNZL Controls, Standards and expectations. Leverage existing quality engineering practices, introducing additional guardrails, standards and processes only where gaps, inconsistencies or risks exist.

Environments, Test Data & Integration Readiness

Provide oversight of environment, test data and integrated service readiness. Ensure ownership and delivery responsibilities for environments, test data and integrated services are clearly defined and managed. Provide visibility of environment, integration and test data risks that may impact delivery or release readiness.

Release Readiness & Service Introduction

Provide independent assessment of residual risk and release readiness. Ensure testing outcomes, evidence and acceptance criteria support service transition, technical readiness, change and release governance. Coordinate the preparation of evidence, approvals and artefacts required to support safe introduction into production.
