Job summary

Archway Recruitment in Wellington seeks a senior procurement leader to shape and drive procurement strategy, sourcing practices, contract governance and capability uplift. This Wellington-based role focuses on delivering commercial and financial insight across a diverse spend portfolio, building capability, and strengthening supplier relationships

Qualifications

Job description

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Finance and Business Services, this is a key leadership role responsible for leading the organisation's procurement strategy, sourcing practices, contract management approach, and procurement capability.

You will provide strategic procurement leadership across the business, ensuring procurement activity aligns with government regulations, best practice frameworks, and organisational objectives. Leading a small team, you will foster a high-performing culture while delivering expert advice on complex procurement and commercial matters.

Key Responsibilities Include
  • Leading procurement strategy, policies, frameworks, and governance
  • Driving procurement maturity and capability across the organisation
  • Overseeing complex sourcing activities, tender processes, evaluations, and negotiations
  • Providing strategic commercial advice to senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Leading category management initiatives across a diverse spend portfolio
  • Establishing robust supplier relationship and contract management practices
  • Enhancing procurement systems, reporting, templates, and processes
  • Building trusted relationships across the organisation and external supplier networks
Role Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Proven experience leading a procurement function within a complex organisation
  • Strong background in strategic sourcing, category management, and commercial procurement
  • Demonstrated expertise in supplier relationship management and contract governance
  • Experience advising senior stakeholders and influencing decision-making
  • Sound knowledge of government procurement frameworks and regulations
  • Strong commercial, financial, and analytical capability
  • Outstanding communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • A collaborative leadership style with a focus on capability development and continuous improvement

Ideally, you will also hold a relevant procurement qualification such as MCIPS, NZ Public Sector Procurement accreditation, or an equivalent tertiary qualification in business, finance, law, public policy, or a related discipline.
