NZ Transport Agency | Waka Kotahi (NZTA) is establishing Principal Engineering within Software Engineering to strengthen technical leadership across teams, platforms and delivery. You’ll guide complex challenges, shape long-term engineering direction and grow capability across NZTA.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you’ll blend strategic thinking with hands-on expertise across frontend, backend, mobile and integration engineering, influencing longer term technical direction while remaining

Qualifications

• Deep software engineering expertise across frontend, backend, integration and data.
• Experience establishing engineering standards, patterns and guardrails.
• Vision for AI augmented engineering and secure delivery.
• Broad tech across Java, Spring Boot, React, REST APIs, PostgreSQL, Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub and GitHub Actions.
• Strong SDLC and DevSecOps with embedded security and automation.

Responsabilités

• Provide hands-on technical leadership across complex, high impact engineering challenges.
• Lead development and adoption of engineering standards, patterns and guardrails.
• Evolve AI augmented engineering, prove and scale new approaches.
• Apply systems thinking across frontend, backend, integration, data and cloud tech.
• Influence software strategy and significant engineering decisions.
• Provide design leadership and assurance for high-risk work.
• Mentor engineers and grow future technical leaders.
• Align across Engineering, Architecture, Security, Platforms, Product and delivery teams.
