Job summary

Thales is seeking a Principal Integration Engineer to drive the integration of software and hardware within a large, real-time ATM system. You will lead integration activities, troubleshoot issues, and ensure components work together while meeting performance requirements.

In an IPT or Agile squad, you may contribute to Verification and Validation activities, environment setup, and tool-assisted testing across platforms. Strong communication across remote teams is essential.

Qualifications

Organisation Context

The Airspace Mobility Solutions (AMS) business, part of the Global Business Unit Land and Air Systems, provides leading-edge Air Traffic Management (ATM), Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM), Security, and Digital Aviation solutions for the Commercial and Defence sectors.

The AMS manages 11% of the world's airspace and, with revenues of over 500 million Euros worldwide, is the global market leader in airspace management solutions. In Singapore, the business focuses on the delivery and support of ATM solutions in the Asia Pacific region.

Role Description

The Principal Integration Engineer is responsible for the integration of software and hardware components within a complex software-centric ATM system. The role involves coordinating and executing integration activities, troubleshooting system issues, and ensuring that various components work seamlessly together while satisfying functional and performance requirements.

Working within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) or Agile Squad, the role may also involve Verification and Validation activities.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct the successful integration and test of software releases for systems and/or subsystems, in accordance with the approved schedule
  • Lead integration activities at Factory and Customer Site facilities
  • Proactively participate in Program Increment planning and backlog refinement including contributing to the effort estimation
  • Manage and/or contribute to the setup of environments to facilitate the integration, testing and acceptance activities required by the program. Provide instruction on the setup of environments to support validation activities.
  • Define and/or contribute to testing activities across multiple platforms (regression, interface, simulation scenarios and test tools) to support project milestones and deadlines
  • Able to analyse System/Subsystem technical and functional issues, ensuring they are identified early, captured fully and logged according to internal processes.
  • To collaborate with System, Subsystem and Infrastructure teams to ensure that the integration activities are in line with the design and specifications
  • Develop and deliver documentation and engineering artefacts (E.g. System Integration Test Documentation) with the expected level of compliance (functional, performance, robustness, security and quality) that are aligned with internal configuration management processes.
  • Develop scripts in order to automate system administration tasks.
  • Manage and/or implement test & measuring tools used for system performance, loading and response-time assessment
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior integrators and the V&V teams
  • Support Technical Leads and WPM through:
    • Making recommendations on strategies to improve performance or productivity
    • Identify risks, and proposing effective solution early and executing mitigation actions
    • Providing input into the planning and coordination of program integration activities
  • Work directly with the customer and internal integration training (as required)
  • Identify risks, and propose effective solutions; execute mitigation actions and report on outcomes / cost savings and residual risks
  • Assist bid activities with integration estimation
  • Authoring and/or reviewing documentation and documentation updates
  • Contribute to the development of Integration Policies, Processes and Procedures to ensure best practice.
  • Promote knowledge sharing ensuring that work is captured sufficiently for re-use across projects
  • Following Thales processes and practises and contribute to their improvement
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Qualifications
  • Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, IT, or relevant experience
Essential Experience
  • 7+ years of experience in similar positions integrating complex software-centric real-time systems
  • ATM Domain Experience
  • Ability to understand the structure of and troubleshoot Virtualisation Platforms/Operating Systems (Clients/Servers): 3+ years
    • Linux/Unix Operating Systems, SNMP Services, RSYSLOG
    • Windows Operating Systems
    • VMware
  • Scripting: Python, Shell, XML - 3+ years
  • DevOps and Automation Tools: Ansible, Jenkins
  • Configuration Management: GIT (Bitbucket), JIRA
  • Cybersecurity: LDAP, AD, PKI
  • Network Protocols and Technologies: SNMP, UDP, TCP, IP
  • Debugging tools (e.g., Wireshark)
  • Infrastructure monitoring tools
  • Adept at troubleshooting issues quickly and efficiently
  • Aptitude to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary integrated team environment with colleagues based in remote sites or other countries
  • Positive attitude combined with excellent interpersonal and motivational skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex engineering issues and concepts, both verbally and in writing, tailored appropriately for stakeholders
Desirable
  • Programming Languages: Java, C++
  • Site integration and deployment experience
  • Knowledge of networks and network configuration / exposure to distributed systems
  • Experience with System Engineering Tools (e.g., DOORS, Polarion, Jira, MBSE)
  • Experience in ATM Domain and related standards (e.g., ICAO, Eurocontrol) or safety-critical systems
  • Experience working in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
