Job summary

LAB3 is a leading Azure engineering practice across Australasia, seeking a Principal Engineer- Cloud & DevOps. You will own Azure platform design, automation outcomes from design through delivery, and help shape standards, governance and ways of working.

Based anywhere in AU/NZ, ideally aligned to AEST hours, with remote/hybrid flexibility. You will lead end-to-end Azure platform delivery, design secure scalable solutions, manage AKS, IaC with Terraform, CI/CD pipelines and provide architecture

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of Azure platform and automation initiatives.
• Design, document and implement secure, scalable Azure solutions.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and robust CI/CD pipelines.
• Provision and manage AKS environments and Helm charts for deployments.
• Act as trusted technical advisor and provide architecture guidance.
• Translate complex concepts into clear recommendations for leadership.
• Produce high-quality artefacts including designs, runbooks, governance docs and change records.
• Partner with delivery leaders on estimation, planning and risk management.
• Mentor engineers and support onboarding and hiring activities.

LAB3 is one of the largest Azure engineering practices in the Australasia region with a focus on Cloud & DevOps, Data, IoT & AI, Modern Workplace, Modern Apps & Integration, Security, and Network services. We are looking for a Principal Engineer- Cloud & DevOps, ideally based anywhere in Australia or New Zealand (but open to work AEST hours). You'll own Azure platform and automation outcomes from design through documentation to delivery, while helping shape engineering standards, governance, and ways of working.

The role

• Lead the end-to-end delivery of Azure platform and automation initiatives.
• Design, document and implement secure, scalable and reliable Azure solutions.
• Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, supported by robust CI/CD pipelines.
• Provision and manage AKS environments, including application deployment, microservices configuration and Helm chart management.
• Act as a trusted technical advisor, providing architecture and design guidance across multiple engagements.
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders and executives.
• Produce high-quality engineering artefacts including solution designs, runbooks, governance documentation and change records.
• Partner with delivery leaders on estimation, planning and risk management.
• Mentor engineers, support onboarding, contribute to hiring activities and help uplift engineering capability across the team.

• Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, ARM Templates and Bicep
• Kubernetes (AKS)
• Pipelines and source control: Azure DevOps, GitHub, GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, Bamboo & Jenkins
• HashiCorp tooling: Terraform and Vault for secrets and credential management
• Azure Networking, Security and Identity: cloud networking, security controls, Entra ID, RBAC and access design
• Cloud Automation: Python, Bash and PowerShell
• Azure Functions, Key Vault, Backups and Cloud Storage
• Azure Integration: Logic Apps, API Management and Microservices
• Cloud Identity, Governance, Licensing and Azure AD
