Job summary

Beca Limited is seeking a Principal Ecologist to provide specialist ecological advice across major infrastructure, renewable energy, water sector and environmental projects in New Zealand, Australia and the Pacific. Auckland preferred, but applicants from anywhere in New Zealand are welcome.

You will lead technical ecology across diverse projects, influence project outcomes and mentor teams while staying at the forefront of biodiversity policy and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified ecology professional with significant consulting experience.
• Strong knowledge of NZ environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience delivering ecological assessments on complex projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of ecological projects, guiding assessment approaches and quality outputs.
• Act as a trusted adviser to clients, project teams and stakeholders, delivering robust ecological advice.
• Lead strategic pursuits, proposals and tenders to secure high-value work across NZ, Australia and the Pacific.
• Build strong relationships with clients, regulators, iwi, contractors and multidisciplinary teams to foster collaboration.
• Collaborate with colleagues to develop integrated ecological and environmental solutions.
