Job summary

The Public Service Commission in Wellington seeks an experienced Principal Advisor to provide trusted, timely and sound advice on complex employment relations and workforce matters across the Public Service. This role sits at the centre of government, shaping system-level employment relations practice and supporting statutory functions in relation to collective bargaining.

Reporting to the Manager, Workforce and Employment Relations, you will lead provision of strategic advice, develop guidance

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in employment relations and workforce matters.
• Good working knowledge of New Zealand employment legislation.
• Experience in HR/remuneration policy or employer responsibility for employment relations.
• Comfort working in a government environment with complex issues and senior leaders.

Responsibilities

• Lead provision of technically sound and strategically aligned advice on public sector workforce strategy, remuneration and employment relations.
• Develop and deliver clear advice on complex agency and system-level employment relations issues, including to Ministers and the Public Service Commissioner.
• Contribute to lifting strategic employment relations capability across the sector through advice, coaching and communities of practice.
• Hold a portfolio of agencies, supporting their development of employment relations strategies, including collective bargaining.
• Build and maintain strong relationships across the sector, the Commission and central agencies, and use these relationships to inform advice and influence outcomes.
