Job summary

Ngāti Tama ki Te Waipounamu Trust in Nelson invites a strategic cultural leader to bring Ngāti Tama’s cultural aspirations to life, overseeing language revitalisation, cultural wellbeing, education, identity and community engagement.

Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Pou Ahurea/Cultural Manager will implement the cultural development strategy across language revitalisation, cultural wellbeing, education, identity and community engagement to strengthen whānau and iwi connections.

Qualifications

• Experience leading cultural, community or whānau development initiatives
• Strong programme and project management skills
• Knowledge of tikanga Māori and te ao Māori
• Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver Ngāti Tama’s cultural development strategy
• Strengthen opportunities for te reo Māori and tikanga learning
• Design and facilitate wānanga, cultural programmes and initiatives
• Foster connections to whakapapa, whenua and iwi identity
• Build partnerships that support cultural, education and wellbeing outcomes
• Support cultural capability across the organisation
• Lead and coach the Cultural Practitioner Lead
• Monitor outcomes and continuously improve programme delivery
• A genuine commitment to the aspirations and future of Ngāti Tama

This newly established leadership role offers the chance to bring Ngāti Tama’s cultural aspirations to life.

Reporting to the Te Pou Whakahaere/Chief Executive, the Pou Ahurea/Cultural Manager will lead the implementation of Ngāti Tama’s cultural development strategy across language revitalisation, cultural wellbeing, education, identity and community engagement.

This is a strategic, community-focused role that will build participation, strengthen cultural connections, and translate vision into programmes and initiatives that make a lasting difference for whānau.
