Whitireia and WelTec are seeking a tutor to facilitate teaching, learning and assessment for Plumbing, Drainlaying and Gasfitting students. The role emphasizes hands-on practical learning and industry-relevant skills on WelTec's Petone campus.
Although teaching qualifications are not essential, successful applicants will receive on-the-job training, with support to complete a Certificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching. A current driver’s license and police vetting are required.
Key responsibilities of this tutoringrole include facilitating teaching, learning and assessment for Plumbing,Drainlaying and Gasfitting students, with courses including a strong hands-onpractical learning component.
Teaching qualifications and experienceare not essential for this position for you to apply, however you must possessthe following qualities to ensure you have the potential to quickly grow intoan effective tutor: patience, adaptability, positive attitude, goodcommunication skills and a reasonable level of physical fitness.
To be successful, you will haveexperience in the industry and a relevant qualification (i.e. New ZealandCertificate or National Certificate in either Plumbing, Drainlaying orGasfitting) and be a Licensed Practitioner or hold a Certifying qualification. Applicantswith multiple licence classes will be at an advantage, but we are alsointerested in talking with Drainlayers and Gasfitters, as there is scope tospecialize.
Successful applicants who do notalready hold a teaching qualification will be supported to complete aCertificate in Adult Tertiary Teaching, or a similar tertiary teachingqualification, through on-the-job training and development. We will, of course,provide full support throughout this process.
The role is based at WelTec's maincampus in Petone. Applicants will be required to undertake a police vettingcheck in order to work with young people and should hold a current driver'slicense.
