Job summary

Amentum is seeking an experienced welder/fabricator to join our team and perform welding, cutting, and fabrication tasks on equipment and construction projects. The role requires adherence to safety, health, and quality standards, with potential deployment to Antarctica for extended periods.

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least four years of welding and fabrication experience. Ability to read shop drawings and work with diverse materials is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe workplace and prioritizes safety above all.
  • Performs manual welding on equipment and construction projects.
  • Cuts, fits, and welds metal components (plate, structural steel, pipe).
  • Welds various metals including mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
  • Advises management on job progress and material requirements.
  • May work outside at various job sites in extreme cold weather.
  • Complies with safety, environmental, and quality requirements and documents as needed.
  • Performs heavy lifting, climbing, crawling, and outdoor work.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a safe workplace and ensures that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
  • Accomplishes manual welding tasks on equipment and construction projects.
  • Performs cutting, fitting, and welding of metal components, including plate, structural steel, and pipe.
  • Accomplishes welding of various types of metals including mild steel, stainless steel and aluminum.
  • Advises VMF management on job progress and material requirements.
  • May be required to work outside at various job sites in extreme cold weather conditions.
  • Complies with all ASC Environmental, Health & Safety, and Quality Assurance requirements and goals. Provides documentation as necessary to ensure adequate legal documentation.
  • Performs physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum four years' experience in all phases of welding and fabrication

Preferred:

  • Experience working with a wide variety of materials is highly preferred.
  • The ability to read and analyze shop drawings and blueprints is preferred.
  • Experience in an industrial or equipment repair environment is required.
  • Cold weather welding experience is preferred.

Physical and/or Other Requirements :

  • Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
  • Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
  • Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
  • Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
  • Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
  • Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
  • Must participate in community programs, such as "house-mouse" (chores), "daisy-picking" (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
  • Valid Driver's License issued in the United States

No clearance requirement but the contract and/or the site requires US Citizenship to be approved for access. (includes NACI / T1, MRPT, CAC): Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
