Job description

We seek a Physiotherapist with a passion for working with children and young adults with special needs. This position is suitable for an experienced PT, or a new graduate with a special interest in paediatrics.

Our school caters for students aged 5 to 21 and operate across multiple sites. Our students have a wide range of needs from Cerebral Palsy, Autism etc. We are a multicultural school which celebrate diversity and cultural differences.

We have a Base school with 10 classes, 14 satellite units attached to mainstream schools, and a transition unit for our 18-21 year olds. Travelling between sites is a key part of this role and you will be responsible for your own transport (driving a personal car with a mileage reimbursement provided is preferred).

We have a large therapy team including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech Language Therapists and Psychologists.

This role is varied and involves working collaboratively with the class team, whānau and other therapy disciplines to ensure students can engage in the curriculum, all aspects of school life, and develop physical independence.

Upskilling teaching and support staff to use best practice across the day is a key part of this role. Your caseload will be varied and you will have opportunity to develop new skills and have professional development opportunities.

Therapists also work to support school wide areas for improvement in line with strategic planning. There is flexibility during the school holidays.

The ideal applicant will:

  • have a strong interest in neurodevelopmental paediatrics, and enjoy working with children with special needs
  • excellent interpersonal skills and the proven ability to work collaboratively
  • a positive 'can-do' attitude and the ability to 'think outside of the box'
  • Able to manage their time and work across sites
  • Interest in postural management and wheelchair and seating experience would be ideal
  • Strive to provide evidence-based practice in a neuro affirming model
