Job summary

Waimate District Council's Norman Kirk Memorial Swimming Pool seeks enthusiastic people to join the lifeguard team for the 2026/27 season. There are three part-time Trainee Lifeguard positions and one casual Trainee Lifeguard role available; training will be provided prior to opening.

Positions suit school students 16+ or others seeking seasonal work. Successful applicants must be available for the full season from 27 October 2026 to 14 March 2027 and to undertake PLPC and First Aid training.

Qualifications

• Aged 16 years or older.
• Confident swimmer willing to learn.
• Friendly, reliable and responsible.
• Able to stay calm under pressure.
• Available for weekend, evening and some early morning shifts.
• Willing to complete the required training, including First Aid and the Pool Lifeguard Practicing Certificate (PLPC).
• If you already hold a Pool Lifeguard Practicing Certificate or First Aid Certificate, that's a bonus.

Responsibilities

• Keep pool users safe.
• Supervise swimmers and respond to emergencies.
• Support children, families and visitors.
• Maintain a clean, welcoming facility.
