Job description
General Summary

The PACS/RIS Administrator is accountable for all aspects of the PACS systems and provides support for development and integration of organizational image archival solutions including day-to-day support of archival systems, administration of systems, and project oversight for PACS . Responsible for the coordination of installation, modification, configuration and maintenance of the Radiology Information System (RIS), Picture Archival & Communication System (PACS) and related systems. Accountable for the day-to-day operations of the PACS/RIS equipment including image workflow, archiving, auto routing, pre-fetching, data coordination and other related activities. Responsible for education of physicians and clinical staff on system use, updates and technically able to address questions concerns as they arise. Reports to Department Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manages and maintains PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and associated systems, including DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) and RIS (Radiology Information System).
  • Monitors system performance and troubleshoot as issues arise.
  • Implements and maintains system security, backups, and disaster recovery plans.
  • Ensures that the radiology department’s PACS needs are addressed and integrated within the IS infrastructure and that IS standards and protocols are followed.
  • Provides technical expertise in implementing and supporting RIS/PACS functions.
  • Maintains positive working relationships and serves as a liaison between the radiology department, providers and other healthcare professionals in the areas of problem solving, remedying of errors and discrepancies, informational requests related to PACS and RIS.
  • Trains new users and provides ongoing training and support to existing users.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory requirements, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
  • Manages vendor relationships and contracts related to PACS and imaging systems.
  • Develops and maintains policies and procedures related to PACS and imaging systems.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate system changes and enhancements or technical support required by any of the applications.
  • Extrapolates data and produces data reports to evaluate and monitor Radiology operations.
  • Assures PACS and related applications operate within established budgetary guidelines.
  • Makes effective recommendations to Director of Imaging Services regarding new equipment, programs, services etc., to affect the continuing improvement and efficiency.
  • Responsible for researching, developing and promoting of various new PACS applications for future expansion and planning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Licenses and/Or Certifications
  • None required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Associates Degree required in a related field, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years of clinical information systems, clinical engineering or clinical operations experience or equivalent required.
  • Knowledge of PACS and other radiology and registration hardware and software applications with project management and leadership skills.
  • Motivated self-starter with excellent communication, time management and customer service skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with Team members, peers, vendors, and customers verbally and in written form is critical.
  • Ability to identify problems and implement solutions for daily operations.
  • Ability to cover call, ability to travel, and work weekends for upgrades and downtime processes which are generally scheduled in advance.
  • Possess excellent team skills, communication, and analytical skills with the ability to plan, establish and maintain a professional work environment.
Working Conditions
  • Normal patient care environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature and the like. Frequent exposure to communicable disease and moderately adverse working conditions due to performance of certain patient care activities.
