Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Southern invites applications for a 2027 Training Year Ophthalmology Registrar (Non-Training). This permanent full-time position sits in the Southern district with main duties across the acute stream, injections, and access to a new eye theatre.

The program offers extensive teaching, case discussions and opportunities to pursue research. The ideal candidate will hold registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (or be eligible) and have at least 2 years

Qualifications

Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand or be eligible for general or provisional general registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
A minimum of 2 years post qualification experience and are interested in RMOs keen to further develop your skills in Ophthalmology and need to have Registrar experience in this field to be able to apply for the training programme.
It is requirement of the Medical Council of New Zealand that your qualifications are approved through EPIC.

Responsibilities

Ensure the acute stream of patients are seen and assessed.
Assist with injections and gain time in the new eye theatre.
Opportunity to extend skills and knowledge base with strong educational support including weekly teaching, case discussions, journal clubs and peer review sessions.
Undertake research as part of training.
